This report brings together key insights and recommendations from a two-day regional conference on reparations for survivors of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV), held in June 2016 in Jahorina, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Convened by UN Women, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the event marked the final regional launch of the Guidance Note of the Secretary-General: Reparations for Conflict-Related Sexual Violence (2014). Focusing on the Western Balkans, the discussions explored how the Guidance Note’s recommendations can be translated into policies and programmes that improve access to justice, recognition, compensation, rehabilitation, and other forms of reparations for survivors.
Drawing on experiences from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo, and Serbia, the publication highlights promising practices, persistent challenges, and opportunities for strengthening survivor-centred reparations in post-conflict contexts.
