This resource page brings together key knowledge products developed under the UN Action Against Sexual Violence in Conflict (UN Action) supported project “Coordinated Action to Respond to the Needs of Child Born of Rape, Children Born to ISIL Fighters, and Their Survivor Mothers” in Iraq (UNA053, 2017-2019).
The project, implemented by UNICEF, examined the challenges faced by children born of conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV), children born to ISIS-affiliated fathers, and their caregivers, with a particular focus on legal identity, birth registration, civil documentation, child protection, access to services, and social reintegration. The resources below provide evidence-based analysis of the legal, policy, and protection environment in Iraq, highlighting barriers to civil registration and documentation, discrimination and stigma, and recommendations for strengthening the rights and protection of affected women and children.
